What's going on with the next film in the franchise?
While Disney is going forward with Pirates of the Caribbean 4, and Johnny Depp will be back as Jack Sparrow, both Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) won't return for the film. So what other major characters will the film focus on?
CinemaBlend is reporting a rumor that a new major character could be the brother of Jack Sparrow, and that character might be comedic and be played by either Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) or Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall).
There is also talk that if Gore Verbinski doesn't return to direct the film, Tim Burton might step in, though Verbinski is expected to return. Geoffrey Rush is also expected to return as Barbossa.
Sacha baron cohen would be awesome. Russell brand would be akin to someone shitting upon my fave meal.

russell brand is a great choice, he was hilarious in forgetting sarah marshall. i thought he was a cross between captain jack and nigel tufnel.

Depp and Rush is all the film will need. Bloom and Knightleys story is over. People dont go to see them anyway.

While the amount of Depp/Burton pairings is getting ridiculous, Burton could breathe some fresh air into the franchise.

Heck the whole comedic brother idea seems odd considering Depp is comedic already.
I'm down with Gore or Tim Burton, both are great.
And yes, please more Geoffry Rush! He's a badass in his role!

I dread the idea of Tim Burton's POTC. It'll be dark, quirky, and Helena Bonham Carter will the the love interest.

I like both Cohen and Brand, but to me Russell Brand is too similar to Jack Sparrow. Also Jack Sparrow is already comedic, how much more silly could you make a character, unless he was a different kind of pirate (not that there's anything wrong with that)
I think it would be cool to see someone like Cohen (real life funny guy) play a more level headed cool guy brother to Johhny Depp's (real life cool guy) over the top, bumbling, anti-hero

Damn, that means that his children's book series will be non-canon. my little brother will be crushed.
I hope that Burton doesn't sign, I perfer the realistic sets (Davy Jones aside) to Burton's typical stylized view.

I couldn't care less about the loss of Bloom. Kiera's a little sad, but after her becoming "The Pirate King" in 3 I'm pretty much done with her.
Tim Burton could be interesting... it depends on if he's going to be in GOOD TIM BURTON (Batman, PeeWee, Nightmare, Scissor Hands) mode or BAD TIM BURTON (Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Michael Jackson & The Chocolate Factory) mode.

This movie can simply pick right up where the 3rd ended, and introducing a few new characters would be great. The movies had their flaws, but two big ones won't be back, and it can stay fresh and move in another direction.

I love the Pirate movies but it will not be the same with out Knightley and Bloom. The chemestry between Depp, Bloom and Knightley made the movies. I might have to pass on this one.
